Gancia vermouths and wines – reputation of Italy
The history of the very first vermouth ever is considered one of the most ancient and incredible ones about wine. The history dates back to the year 400 BC, when an Ancient Greek sophist Hippocrates has discovered a Vinum Absinthiatum (predecessor of modern vermouth). The country of Italy connects its history with that of Piedmont at the times of Savoy dynasty, when Carlo Gancia, the founder of a Company, has contributed into production methods of Classic Vermouth di Torino.
They say that the genuine Vermouth di Torino was born in a small cellar at today’s Piazza Castello square in Turin by Antonio Benedetto Carpano, who had invented an aromatic wine by adding of herbs and spices from his native Biella, as it is indicated in old recipes that came from monks.
Vermouth di Torino by Carpano is today’s Vermouth Rosso: its ruby-red colour was being obtained by adding of caramel extract. In the year 1915 the House of Gancia had discovered a new generation of vermouths – Bianco.
Nowadays, Gancia vermouths are produced in three appearances – Bianco, Rosso and Dry, known as “Classic Italian Aperitif”, and each one has its own style and unique taste. The secret recipe of an alcoholate with Alpine herbs and exotic spices, mixed with special wine base, came from ancient times without changes, and is still used by Gancia wine-makers.
A genuine reputation of Gancia brand is also created by the very first sparkling wine, produced in Italy, which has opened a brand new line of an alcoholic industry. This year’s most significant event is the cooperation of two famous Italian brands – “Gancia” winery and “Pininfarina” design-firm, that has created a unique style for the new line of Gancia wines, called “Pininfarina”, which consists of Asti, Prosecco and Rose’.
